The wait is almost over! The Salone del Mobile 2019 is just around the corner.
There has been a wealth of design-themed events in recent months (we shared some of our favourites with you in this post), but now the time has come for the biggest one of the year. Here are some tips to help you get organised.

Dates, tickets and how to get there

The 58th edition of Milan’s Salone del Mobile will be held from Tuesday 9 April until Sunday 14 April. Entrance to the trade show is by ticket only and these can be bought online.
Here you can find information about how to get to the event.

FieraMilano Rho

This year, the pavilions at the Rho trade centre will also be welcoming the Euroluce and Workplace 3.0 exhibitions, in addition to all things new in the interior design world.

Euroluce is the biennial indoor and outdoor lighting event, currently in its 30th year. The focus of the fair is on smart lighting, offering built-in, intelligent solutions designed to interact with the surrounding space, and even shape it.

Workplace 3.0 is the section dedicated to office furniture. This year, it has adopted a new format, encouraging experimentation with different designs and asking us to question social change in the workplace. The 52 Workplace exhibitors can be found dotted around the trade fair, mixed in with the other companies. This decision reflects an evolution in the way we think about work and the workspace, no longer distinct from our leisure time and the spaces we live in during our daily lives.

FuoriSalone

The fringe events programme for this year’s FuoriSalone is even richer and more stimulating, bringing Milan’s districts to life for the whole week. Events and installations will take over the city, transforming Milan into the Design Capital par excellence (hence why this name was given to the documentary produced by Studiolabo about the FuoriSalone in 2014). Among the hundreds of choices on offer, we have picked just some of the events you cannot afford to miss.

1. The first anniversary of the Design Store Milano

The Design Store space in Milan was opened last year in the futuristic City Life district, at Viale Severino Boezio 20, and, this year, it has been completely renovated with new collections and previews of new products for the living room and bedroom spaces. What’s more, Santalucia Mobili will be taking part in the FuoriSalone fringe events programme for the very first time. The Milan Design Store has been included in Interni’s official guide, which covers all of the key events and initiatives running throughout the Design Week.

2. A stroll around Brera

The theme for the Brera Design District is “Design your Life” and the focus is on sustainability as a starting point for creating new designs. Don’t miss the majestic RobotTL, the sustainability superhero designed by Giò Forma for Timberland, which you can find in Piazza XXV Aprile. The six-metre tall installation was created with recycled plastic and production waste from the design industry. The aim of the project is to educate visitors on the disastrous consequences of making the wrong daily lifestyle choices.

3. Happy hour in Isola

The Isola district of Milan will host the third edition of the Isola Design District event. This year’s aim is to go beyond the concept of product and purpose, by experimenting with new techniques and materials around the theme of Unlimited Design. You can stop off at the Design Village for an aperitif in a fully 3D printed bar or admire the green installations created by the Green Island studio, inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci’s inventions on the 500th anniversary of his death.

4. Wandering around Tortona

This district is the most symbolic of the Design Week, offering one of the richest programmes of events and installations. Discover them as you wander through the doors and gateways leading off the streets that make up this area. One stop-off point you can’t miss is Superstudio, which explores the link between innovation and tradition, both conflicting and interdependent at the same time. Just one of the eye-catching installations on display is OLED, LG’s roll-up TV design.

5. Lose yourself in the 5 Vie district

Milan’s oldest and most charming district will be welcoming the Art+Design project again, which transforms the area’s winding streets and internal courtyards into an outdoor museum bursting with exhibitions and performances. One to watch is The Fish and the Crowd, the first solo exhibition by Lebanese designer Carlo Massoud, who will be displaying a social reflection on uncontrolled urbanisation through six years of projects. SIAM will be hosting the Human Code exhibition by Roberto Sironi curated by Annalisa Rosso. This experimental project brings together technology, analysis and anthropology, looking back over the crucial stages of human evolution.

6. Further out in Lambrate

Last but by no means least is the Lambrate Design District, which was opened last year, and has been confirmed again this year as a cult spot for design lovers.
Defined as “the new Italian Brooklyn”, Lambrate will be exploring sustainability, creativity and industry for this 58th edition of the Salone. In addition, thanks to a partnership with NYCxDesign, the area will be animated with artists from around the world. You really can’t afford to miss it.
