Livio, Pier Giacomo and Achille, the three Castiglioni brothers reunited for the first time in one exhibition that focuses on the collaborative spirit and mutual exchange that dominated their work and made it a paradigm for Italian design.

The exhibition is curated by design historian Dario Scodeller and promoted by Unindustria Pordenone, in collaboration with the Achille Castiglioni Foundation and Pordenone’s local authorities, and is on display at the city’s Harry Bertoia Gallery. Sixty years of Italian design explored through objects that have made the Castiglioni name famous around the world, together with numerous designs, sketches and prototypes.

The materials have been provided in part by the Achille Castiglioni Foundation, while others are from the archives of Livio and Pier Giacomo, conserved in the studios of architects Piero Castiglioni and Giorgina Castiglioni respectively.

Starting from the first, iconic designs like the Phonola and Brionvega radios, the exhibition explores the development and creative research of the three designers, accompanying visitors through their study of light and lighting, as well as their more innovative, exuberant interior design and domestic technology creations.

The installation pays particular attention to the collaboration between the Castiglioni brothers and Italian businessmen, which revolutionised the way objects of design were conceived, made and talked about.

The exhibition forms part of the celebrations for the 100 year anniversary of the birth of Achille Castiglioni: a unique opportunity to explore the genesis of some historic pieces of design that even today still inspire the next generations of designers and creatives.
