Fashion and design: the keyword is “dandy”

There is no doubt about it, Dandy style is this year’s hot trend.
Confirmation comes once again from Pitti Uomo, the international men’s fashion trade fair which has just reached its 94th edition.

The streets and catwalks of host city Florence are bursting with dandy 2.0: sophisticated, eclectic looks with some tongue-and-cheek spirit, always unfalteringly elegant. Here are this style’s 3 signature features:

1. The hat

Next season’s must-have. The summer version is the straw hat, but there are a wealth of materials and, especially, models to choose from, from the most traditional trilbies, Borsalinos and fedoras, to the more extravagant accessorised styles with buckles, ribbons and coloured foulards. And that’s not forgetting the wide-brimmed models, iconic Panamas and boaters, for a retro feel. The hat is the epitome of dandyism; much more than just an accessory, it is the symbol of modern dandy style.

2. The pastel suit

Matching suit jacket and trousers, preferably linen, are all you need to stay elegant during those first hot days of summer. New dandy style really lets rip, revealing its most creative flair and perennial desire to wow, opting for bold, bright colours or being daring with block pastel shades. Tone-on-tone is all the rage, together with stripes and chequered patterns. Shirts are no longer compulsory under your suit jacket, with polo shirts or t-shirts proving to be popular alternatives for a more relaxed take on dandy style.

3. The shoes

It’s all about leather and suede moccasins worn without socks, for a fresh, summer look. Bare ankles are the way to go for the double buckle shoes too. The most sought-after models are those with a handcrafted, vintage feel. Ultra-elegant, they are easy to wear with casual flair. And of course the evergreen lace-ups: with a fun pair of coloured socks to boot for that real tongue-and-cheek spirit that is a must for dandy style.
