Adopt a beehive. Save the planet
In 2017, the UN designated 20 May World Bee Day. Why that date? Because it’s the birthday of Anton Janša, who pioneered modern beekeeping techniques in his native Slovenia in the 18th century and was the first teacher of apiculture in Vienna.
Today, the date is an important time each year to remember the fundamental role bees play in maintaining the equilibrium and biodiversity of nature. Here’s one of the sustainable choices Santalucia Mobili has made.
Bees: small insects doing a big job
Bees play a key role in our ecosystem. They are essential to the pollination process and bring an industriousness to the food chain that is a natural source of wellbeing for all living beings and supports biodiversity. This is why it is so important to raise awareness about protecting them, especially now that their very existence is increasingly under threat from the effects of human activity and from climate change.
Contributing to a great objective
Santalucia Mobili is taking part in the day’s events through the “Adotta un alveare Bio” (Adopt an Organic Beehive) project promoted by the Illiria Group in partnership with Friuli-based Azienda Agricola Canais, which is celebrating 25 years of organic beekeeping this year. For 14 years, the owner and expert beekeeper has been offering the chance to anyone interested to adopt one or more beehives.
Santalucia Mobili has decided to take part by adopting 10 beehives in Moruzzo, one of the locations of the apiaries, and has given each of them a name related to our brands and products.
Adopting beehives also means being able to go and visit them, getting updates on the apiary’s activities and receiving a certain amount of organic honey at the end of the beekeeping season.
UN 2030 Agenda, our goals for a sustainable future
Environmental sustainability is the path that Santalucia Mobili is committed to taking, by embracing and implementing more CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) schemes and activities. For example, by adopting beehives, we are contributing to three of the UN’s 2030 Agenda sustainable development goals, namely goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and goal 15 (Life on Land).
For us at Santalucia Mobili, this action is a concrete commitment to support the environment and the ecosystem.
